I Love Serving A Mission

July 29, 2013

The talk went really well. I’m so glad that he decided to get baptized and the rest of the family is on track to be baptized as well. The baptism was such a great experience, the spirit is always so strong and it makes it all worth it. All those hot days on a bike all those days when people slam the doors in  your face and don’t want to listen to you, all of that is worth it because of the steps that I get to help people take to come closer to their Savior. I love serving a mission. The interview went really well, I like President Baker a lot. He’s such a good guy and I look forward to serving with him. I did get your letter, thanks. Well it’s good they like seeing missionaries while they are young, it will make them want to go on missions later. New Port News is in the mission so if I ever serve up there I will try and get in touch with them. My friends aren't allowed to be engaged! We aren't that old!! So when Elder Mcgettigan first got here we helped a family move out of the ward. Last week that family called and said they had a friend in the ward that wants to be baptized! So we met with him on Sunday, and he’s been coming to church for over a year, I thought he was a member. But we are starting to teach him and hopefully before I get transferred he will get baptized! Well that’s about it, love ya.

It Took Me A Couple Of Seconds To Realize I Was Elder Romney

July 22, 2013

What?! Rachael and Mike are moving to Utah?! I don’t think anyone told me this!

We are teaching this new family and it was a really good first lesson. After we had taught about the great apostasy we had asked what they understood about what we had taught so far, and the mom answered and said that it sounds like we are in the apostasy right now. So it was really neat to see her understand that so well. I think it made her appreciate the story of Joseph Smith so much more.  so I got good news last night, one of the people that we were teaching, the Vincent family, who we had to stop teaching because they were in the other ward, I think I told yall that. But anyways, he’s getting baptized on Saturday! So that’s really amazing. I taught him up until we realized they weren’t in our ward like 2 weeks ago. He said that he likes me and I was well spoken as a missionary and he asked me to speak at his baptism. And then yesterday in church we were sitting there in elders quorum about to get started, and they were going to ordain Bro. Falco, who I baptized last month. And the bishop is in there and everything and they call him up and were like ok now Elder Romney is going to ordain Bro. Falco. It took me a couple of seconds to realize I was Elder Romney. So I got to ordain someone for the first time yesterday. The lord sure does know how to humble people! So it’s been a good week. It hasn’t rained at all since last week so it’s been nice to get out and do a lot. But unfortunately no rain means it’s really really hot. When you are riding your bike it just feels like someone has a blow drier in your face the whole time. It’s definitely a different kind of heat than Arizona. We have interviews with the president on Thursday this week so I actually get to sit down and meet with him, it’ll be nice. Well that’s about it for this week, love ya.

I Really Don't Know Why My Email Didn't Send Last Week?

July 15, 2013  (two emails, last weeks and this weeks)

I don't know why this didn't send, I logged on this week and there was an error message, sorry.

July 8,2013

Zone conference was kinda pointless, but we got to meet the new president. I like him a lot he’s super organized and it seems like it’s going to be really good. He’s from Colorado and was an electrical engineer who designed computers for HP. I saw your friend’s son at zone conference and some kid that I knew from school. Other than myself I think there are only 2 other missionaries from my MTC district in the new mission. I haven't heard anything about transfers, I doubt I will because I’m still training. Hey next package could you send me one of those consecrated oil keychain things, I realized I don't have one. All my companions have had one so it hasn't been a big deal but I figure I should have one. Yes thank you for the treats, I love sweets so much! This week was way slow because we had like 3 meetings this week. But other than that I had a good 4th of July. Our president told us not to proselyte, but to spend time with members. So we spent all day eating and having fun. I had the best steak ever for dinner and it was wrapped in a ton of bacon, it was so good! We were helping someone move this morning and it was a nice sunny day and we were on our way to drop off a load at a storage unit when out of no where the most torrential downpour you have ever seen happens. Like more rain than Arizona gets in a year in a matter of 30 min. then it stops and it went back to being hot sunny and now more humid, this state is weird. I will never complain about rain again and I don't know why anyone would want to live here you can barely do anything.  Coming back from Virginia we had to pull over because it was raining so hard you couldn't see the front of the car! I was glad I wasn't driving. It’s been a good week though, it’s always fun when you get to be around other missionaries a lot. I like it a lot more now because there’s no one to do anything with on preparation day here in Clayton. But things are going well, the ward is fired up from the broadcast and is really wanting to find the inactives in the ward, so it’s going to keep us busy. Well have fun in Idaho, love ya.

July 15, 2013

I really don't know why my email didn't send last week, it’s one of the longer ones too. Well it sounds like you are having fun in Idaho. This week was super slow. It has rained so much. The ward I’m serving in is great about having people go with us to teach so we don't have to cancel everything. We have been busy though, the ward wants to know about every inactive member on the roster so we are helping them meet everyone and get to know the ward. It’s been keeping us busy so that's really good. Things are going good, I’ve changed how I do my studies in the morning and I feel like I’ve learned so much more. It’s interesting to re-read things over and over and see how different your perspective is depending on what’s going on in your life. It’s interesting to me as well how the spirit works. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ll be out talking to people or teaching a lesson and I’ll remember a scripture I read that morning and it applies perfectly to what is going on. Well I don't know what else to say so hopefully it won’t rain this week so I can tell ya more next week. Love ya.

The Weather Here Is Terrible

July 1, 2013

Ya I’ve lost so much weight since I’ve been here I’m down to 170. The weather here is terrible. You can’t move without sweating. Like when we get out and bike when we are done and get home I’m dripping wet. I think I might be more dry if I jumped in a swimming pool. It rains EVERY day here. Between 3 and 9pm I would bet money that everyday there’s going to be a rain storm. In one day more water will fall from the sky than I’ve seen in my entire life in Arizona. Every week since I’ve been with Elder Mcgettigan we have helped someone move in or out of our ward. And the funny thing is every U-Haul has had an Arizona license plate. Tomorrow we have to drive 3 hours to Portsmouth, Virginia for a zone conference to meet the president and the mission and such. The meeting is only two hours. So round trip we drive 6 or more hours for a two hour meeting. This transfer is only 5 weeks. Transfer day is the 10th of July. So in my whole mission so far, all 6 transfers I have only had 2 normal 6 week transfers. It’s weird. Thank you for the package I just got it. Your popcorn didn’t work this time.... the bag exploded and popcorn was all over everything. But it all tastes good so thank you!! Well I think that’s about it, I’ll let ya know about any crazy things that happen with the mission next week. Do I have 2 plaques yet?? Love ya.
