Crazy Things Happened This Week

July 28, 2014

Crazy things happened this week. I am actually not in Gloucester. I got a call on Wednesday (day before transfers) and President Baker said that some things had to change due to "circumstances he can’t control". So now I am in the Great Bridge ward and I’m serving as a zone leader again. My companion is Elder Tucker from Utah somewhere. Here is my new address:

224 Ridgecrest Pl. Apt 204
Chesapeake, VA 23322

This week was a little slower, we had to pack and clean and all that jazz for transfers so not much happened in Poquoson. But since transfers, things have been going really well. On transfer day it was raining and my companion and I were in charge of putting all the luggage on a trailer for the missionaries traveling down to North Carolina, so that was a fun event in the rain. We are also teaching a ton of people so we have been crazy busy all the time. I’ve missed being this busy, it’s nice.

We are teaching this one lady and she is super cool. They have been teaching her for a month and she is getting ready to be baptized in the middle of august. We taught the word of wisdom and she said she smoked and drank coffee. She then committed to quit by this weekend. So in a few days she has gone from 10 cigarettes a day to 3. The Lord is pretty good at his job!

Serving in leadership is such a blessing, we had a meeting with the stake president last night and it’s so amazing as a missionary to get to work with and learn from all these leaders. That's been one of my favorite parts of a mission is getting to see all the different ways that the various wards and leaders function.

Well that's about it for this week, love ya

The Spiritual Experiences Continue To Flow From The Book of Mormon

July 21, 2014

That's crazy how big everyone is getting, and even crazier that kids that young are getting mission calls!

I’m getting transferred again. I’m going up to Gloucester, VA (pronounced Gloster). President Baker asked me to help train a missionary on how to be a district leader. So it should be fun.
Address:
6898 Enfield Rd
Gloucester, VA 23061

We had a pretty good week, we got to teach that 9 year old, Jacob, again. As soon as we walked in he ran to the calendar and told us the next day we "have to come back". He is a way cool kid, I’m bummed that I won’t get to keep teaching him. The other day we knocked into a guy who seemed pretty interested and he told us to come back. But when we went back he didn't answer, and we were super bummed out. We went back the other day and his wife answered and said that they all got hit with the stomach flu and that he was still interested but still sick. Hopefully good things come from that, I’ve never been so happy that someone had the stomach flu.

The spiritual experiences continue to flow from the Book of Mormon. Again this week I had similar experiences that let me know the Lord is looking out for me. This book is truly filled with God's words and no matter what question we may have, some way, somehow, the Book of Mormon will speak peace to our souls and guide us to the answers and revelations that we need.

I've Had Some Really Neat Experiences With The Book of Mormon This Week

July 14, 2014

We had a storm a few days ago that was more intense that that "hurricane". I’ll be excited to get away from all this humidity.

I’ve had some really neat experiences with the book of Mormon this week. In both instances I had written in my journal the night before about some frustrations I have been having about some various things. Then the next day while reading the Book of Mormon I received revelation pertaining to both of these journal entries. One happened Monday and the other yesterday. The cool thing is that we have been reading through the Book of Mormon as a mission at a certain pace, but apparently they sent an updated reading schedule that I never got so I have been behind. But if I hadn't have been behind I don't think I would have learned the lessons that I needed to in order to sort out these questions I have been having.

One of the experiences I had related to trying to figure out the when, where, how of school. I was reading in 3 Nephi when Christ is teaching the people and in chapter 13: 25-34 Christ is talking with his apostles and is telling them about what they need to focus on when they serve. And it hit me that I don't need to worry about college and home stuff right now, and that I just need to focus on the last 3 months I have out here. I have decided that I haven't decided what I’m going to do when I get back. I also decided that I don't need to worry about it until I get back.

Over all from these past couple of weeks I have noticed the Lord teaching me that I can trust in his timing and that he knows what is going on and that he is in control. From the experience with that young man that spoke and grandpa to these experience I have had with the Book of Mormon as well as dozens of other experiences that I have had, the Savior is showing me and teaching me to be patient and trust him.

We have started teaching a 9 yr old boy who hasn't been baptized yet, we have had two lessons so far and he is a cool little kid. Saturday we set him with a date for baptism, the first weekend in September, so things are going well. We find out if we get transferred this weekend, so by next email ill know if I’m staying here or not.

That’s about it, love ya

We Found An Awesome New Family To Teach

July 7, 2014

Thanks for the package! And yes the college stuff did help. I should be in the middle of the video that Sis. Hamilton sent, I’m wearing a red shirt and standing in the back.

This week was really good. Don’t worry we didn't die in the hurricane. It didn't hit us hard at all up here, it rained a lot in the middle of the night apparently though. I was hoping for worse, I think it would be fun to be in a hurricane.

We found an awesome new family to teach. They used to live in Oregon, they are in the coast guard, and while they were there they attended church and loved the ward and went to all kinds of activities. Then they moved and didn't really have contact with the church. But what they didn't know is that they moved in next to a less active member. So we got a referral from the member when we first got in this area and we haven't been able to contact them because they have been out of town. So the other day the wife post on Facebook (in a military family group or something) if anybody knows how she can sign up and feed the Mormon missionaries. Needless to say all of the military members of our ward jumped at once. We had dinner with them on Saturday and it was awesome. There was just one problem, they said that they don't necessarily believe in God... But they are the most opened minded people I have ever met, they are truly seeking for truth. Unfortunately with his job he goes out of town for half of every month so we won’t see them both for a few weeks.

Love ya,
Jordan
